A modular system that converts industrial waste heat into on-site electricity and optional hydrogen

  • Phoenix Aler is a modular, vendor-neutral architecture for recovering industrial waste heat as useful on-site electricity. It combines thermoelectric generation, power electronics and site-specific balance-of-plant engineering; where the economics and safety case support it, recovered electricity can also be connected to electrolysis or other green-molecule production. The core conversion stage can operate without moving parts. Phoenix supplies site measurement, feasibility, project-specific integration IP, design rules and performance verification, while qualified EPC and OEM partners can provide the hardware and installation. A 40-foot PHX-0001 demonstrator has produced operating measurements witnessed by TĂśV Austria TURK. Those measurements are evidence from a defined test configuration, not product certification or a universal performance guarantee.

    The Environmental Benefits

    • •Phoenix Aler converts a temperature difference across thermoelectric modules directly into DC electricity, without a turbine or moving parts in the core conversion stage
    • •The architecture is modular and vendor-neutral: qualified modules, heat exchangers and power electronics are selected for each site’s temperature, flow, cooling and operating profile
    • •Recovered power can supply an on-site electrical load or, where site economics justify it, reduce part of the external electricity required by a commercial electrolyser
    • •Phoenix Aler converts an industrial temperature difference directly into DC electricity without consuming fuel in the thermoelectric conversion stage
    • •Its environmental benefit is calculated from net electricity delivered after subtracting pumps, fans, controls and inverter losses, then compared with the local grid
    • •The modular system is designed for disassembly: steel, aluminium and copper are separated for recycling, while electronics and thermoelectric modules go to specialist treatment

    The Financial Benefits

    • •At EUR 0.15/kWh, the screening case avoids EUR 10,800/year of electricity purchases before O&M; EUR 54,000 installed net CAPEX corresponds to a 5-year simple payback
    • •In the screening case, a 10 kW system operating 8,000 hours per year with 10% auxiliary losses delivers 72,000 kWh/year of net electricity from otherwise rejected heat
